I’m Ridwan, a software engineer focused on AI infrastructure, backend systems, and building platforms that hold up under real-world pressure.

Right now I’m at Careem in Dubai, where I started their AI Center of Excellence from scratch and now lead a team of data scientists and AI engineers to build the platform that powers AI across Careem’s logistics and operations. Before this, I built payments systems, ML platforms, and cloud infrastructure across London and Bengaluru. The full story is on my work page.

How I think about building things

Start with the problem, not the tooling. I’ve used FastAPI, Kubernetes, Celery, Azure, AWS, and plenty else. I pick what fits, not what’s trending. The best infrastructure decision is often the boring one.

Platform thinking over point solutions. I’d rather build one system that serves ten use cases than ten bespoke services. Shared abstractions and a small surface area compound over time.

Shipping is a skill. Good architecture and best practices matter. But I’ve seen too many beautiful diagrams that never served a single user. I’d rather ship something simple that works than plan something perfect that doesn’t.

Design is not decoration. I care about how things look and feel, not as a finishing touch, but as an engineering decision. Systems that are easy to understand are easier to trust, debug, and extend

Get in touch

Always open to conversations about AI infrastructure, MLOps, platform engineering, or interesting problems at scale. If you want to hear why your side-project probably doesn’t need Kubernetes, email me. If you’re building something that does, I’m even more curious.
